Travelling by car? Here’s the route!
Loch Riddon Bothy is 3 miles north of the village of Colintraive on the north east shore of Loch Riddon. Around one and a half hours from Glasgow there are two possible routes to the Bothy:
The first route is by road only and leaves Glasgow on the A82 and along the west side of Loch Lomond. At Tarbet the road becomes the A83. After travelling through Arrochar and around the head of Loch Long there is a steady climb up the infamous Rest and Be Thankful. Then turning left onto the A815, the road follows Loch Fyne before entering Strachur where the A886 begins. Follow this road all the way to Loch Riddon Bothy which you will find on the left hand side where the road comes close to the shores of Loch Riddon.
The alternative route is via the M8 west from Glasgow to Greenock and then onto Gourock and the Western Ferries terminal at McInroy’s Point. It’s a 25 minute ferry ride across to Hunter’s Quay, Dunoon. There is then a scenic 25 minute drive around the head of Loch Striven to the junction with the A886 and a further 5 minutes drive to Loch Riddon Bothy.
You will pass Loch Riddon House first. Don’t turn in here. Continue until you see a sign for Springfield on the left. As you turn in you will see the sign for Loch Riddon Bothy and a parking space. If you put the postcode onto a SatNav it will take you straight past the Bothy and on into the village of Colintraive!
Loch Riddon Bothy is a two hour drive from Oban. There is a ferry from Portavadie, 30 minutes away, that takes you to Tarbert on the Kintyre peninsula.
