Our Garden
Loch Riddon Bothy is in the garden of Springfield on the east side of Loch Riddon, making it the perfect home to native flora & fauna.
Immerse yourself
The grounds surrounding Loch Riddon Bothy are varied with steep rocky outcrops and native trees. There are flower borders planted with bright colours and nectar bearing blooms to attract insects. There is a pond which is home to frogs, toads and newts – it also attracts herons who like to stand silently at the edge before they pounce.
There are areas of uncut grass where animals can shelter and plants like orchids can thrive. Native trees such as shrubby birch, willow, rowan, birch, wild cherry and alder have been planted over the last few years and are becoming established.
Meet the locals
Wildlife is encouraged by putting out food and providing nest boxes for birds, from blue tits to owls. There are regular visits from red squirrels as well as an occasional otter passing through the garden.
Many birds nest in the garden as well as some of the waders from the shores of Loch Riddon.
Savour the taste of Scotland
Fruit, vegetables, salad, herbs and flowers in season are available to Bothy users.
Alternatively, you can head to one of many local establishments to try some of the fantastic food & drink our region has to offer.
