The Hayshed Gallery

One of my favourite trips is to the Hayshed Gallery at Carry Farm just outside Tighnabruaich about 30 minutes drive from Loch Riddon Bothy.  In fact its easy to see how much I love it as you will find many of the Bothy products and furnishings are made there.

Originally an agricultural barn at Carry Farm, the owners converted it into a gallery space three years ago.  The space is divided in two.  On one side you can browse (and buy!) handmade Hebridean jumpers, stunning woollen footstools and Hebridean sheepskins cured using natural techniques.  Ceramics are made next door in the Drey workshop, wooden goods using locally sourced materials are made in a workshop at the back of the pottery and textiles such as cushions and wall hangings are screen printed in a converted attic space above the barn.

The other side of the Gallery is taken up with a coffee bar run by Argyll Coffee Roasters and irresistible cakes from another local maker, the Wild Kitchen. You can also buy an amazing array of coffees, coffee machines and gadgets or coffee cups and mugs.

As if that wasn’t enough there is also a wonderful shop selling plant based skin care products opposite the Gallery and, to top it off, Carry Farm is home to Tighnabruaich Sailing School.  This year you could book a two day sailing or power boat course.

Over the last winter ceramic workshops have been offered by Drey Workshop and Eve Campbell textiles.  The courses take place at the Hayshed Gallery.  I have been lucky enough to do two courses; a ceramics course and a table lamp course.

You too could make tiles like these!
