Caol Ruadh Sculpture Park
We are lucky enough to have the oustanding sculpture park at Caol Ruadh on the doorstep of Loch Riddon Bothy. If you find yourself with some time you must go and visit.
Caol Ruadh is a striking Victorian red brick manor house set in truly spectacular and extensive grounds on a gentle slope running down to the Kyles of Bute and the Burnt Islands. The present garden has been crafted over the last 25 years making full use of the natural landscape with thoughtful additions - you will find rocks, shoreline, ponds and bridges as well as a wildflower meadow, a small walled garden and plenty of smaller buildings such as the boathouse. As you wander around you will come across a series of wonderful surprises – sometimes man made and sometimes natural.
Karen Scotland has used this dramatic scenery to showcase the sculptural work of a range of talented artists. The works are set into this partly natural and partly created landscape with dramatic effect. As the garden evolves so new opportunities arise for exhibiting new work.
This year fourteen artists will be showing their work. In total there are 48 works of art in the exhibition. As well as dotted around the 18 acre grounds, art work can be found in the Blue Bird Studio, a space used for workshops and this year hosting a bird whittling course.
The Sculpture park opens today, Saturday 1st July, for the 2023 season! Opening times are Thursday – Sunday 11:00 – 6:00pm. This year’s exhibition closes on Sunday 3rd September.
Entry is £5 per adult.
