Bute Yard
If you happen to be visiting Loch Riddon Bothy it is well worth considering paying a visit to Bute Yard. I have written several blogs on some of the other highlights on Bute - Mount Stuart and Walking the southern loop of the West Island Way.
Bute Yard is a purpose built venue showcasing the food and drink available on Bute. It is situated close to the ruined castle in the centre of Rothesay, Bute’s main town.
It is a huge internal space and has a big outside area too. Both of these have plenty of seating for visitors to use.
Bute Yard is a collaboration between the Mount Stuart trust and four partners - Isle of Bute Distillery, Bute Brew Company, Isle of Bute Smokehouse and Bute Kitchen.
On the first Sunday of the month there is also a food and craft fair. I popped over today and found it buzzing. There were stalls from Bute and further afield selling a myriad of products. Bothy users will know that I love Argyll Botany and use them for our shower gel, soap and beastie spray in the Bothy. I was delighted to be able to top up my supplies.
Another favourite is Planted by Sai from who I learned to make Asian dumplings. Her stall was brimming with deliciousness - and all totally vegan!
The outside area is mainly a large gravel yard with picnic tables but around each side are deep planters with wonderful plantings. Even on a grey day in October it looked pretty special.
